My Issues With Body Image Issues

I don’t know about you but I’m sick and tired of the skinny obsession in this country.

It’s bullshit. LADIES, we’re supposed to HAVE CURVES! I have yet to meet a man that doesn’t like curves in a woman’s body.

For me, this is a  highly spirited topic and I hope this video will help motivate you and see your own beauty and worth!

  1. Hi Jovanka, this is just a friendly fyi that there are people out here with the opposite experience, and I happen to be one of them. I am not able to view videos on this computer, but reading this post and many other other things I see and hear on a daily basis make me feel invisible. Who exactly says we’re all “supposed to” have curves? I actually find it surprising that people with curves feel devalued because of it, because I have only known the opposite. I grew up being teased and ridiculed for being “flat”. In spite of that, I’ve never had the slightest inlination to try to alter myself to suit others. I think in reality most “models” in the media are portrayed as having breast curves even if they might be fake or implanted. Trust me, there is a big stigma attached to being flat, and many people feel free to openly express their disapproval and disdain. Perhaps women who are seen as “pretty” might escape this, but that isn’t me. Bottom line: body shape and looks should not equal value, and there is no incorrect or less valid body shape. Thank you for helping change these limiting and damaging beliefs and perceptions.

    1. Laura – I agree with you completely! I grew up being (and still am) pretty skinny and flat as well. While the post mentions curves (specifically because the average woman is curvier than what’s portrayed as the “standard of beauty”), this post is about learning to love who you are regardless of your shape, which in the end, is what self-esteem, self-love and body image is all about. This comment may have inspired me to write another post about women like us, with the exact opposite experience. Thanks for sharing. It is lovely!
