My Beef With Milk

I have a bone to pick with milk.

And with the people that tell us that milk is great and with the celebrities making money and trying to sell you the “white stuff”.

You know the argument in favor of dairy: is good for your bones; you need calcium and vitamin D. It prevents osteoporosis. And on and on….

Well, I’m here to tell you that it isn’t.

WHY? Check out the video to find out!

Look, you don’t have to believe me if you don’t want to but what I will ask is that you PLEASE do your homework.

Don’t put that stuff in your body before you know what works and what doesn’t.

Do you have any questions about this highly controversial issue? What’s your opinion?

  1. Love this! First off, I drink ONLY almond milk. I’ve never liked cows milk and when I was little my mother would put a teaspoon of coffee in my milk and call it “coffee milk” in order to force me to drink it. I switched to soy when I reached high school and soon after discovered the joys of almond milk!

This seriously is a HOT topic as there are so many ways we can feed our bodies, both with food and with love. What we decide to feed our bodies may not work for the next person, but I LOVE you enthusiasm, awesome camera skills and your opinion 🙂

    Thanks!

    1. I couldn’t agree with you more Jenny! And like you, I never liked the stuff growing up. With what I know now, I’m grateful I didn’t put too much of that in my system. Thanks for the sweet comment!

  2. I remember reading somewhere that the Dairy foundation is in cahoots with the federal gov and that has led to developing the infamous food pyramid in the way that current is set up to favor dairy. Since cutting out dairy, I’ve never felt better! Thanks for opening everyone’s eyes to what dairy is – and isn’t.

  3. OK, I get it, about all the bad things floating around in the milk and how we shouldn’t continue to subject our already over toxic bodies to more toxicity, what do you suggest then for those us who would like a similar kind of drink orto use as an ingredient in other foods that call for milk?

    1. There are lots of milk alternatives out there. I would start with almond or hazelnut milk. If you’re allergic or need a thicker consistency, you can try hemp milk. I also love coconut milk, which is a bit on the sweeter side. Cashew milk also has a thicker consistency but it is a little harder to find. You can get these milk alternatives are regular supermarkets these days. Hope this helps!

  4. This is a great video providing correct information about milk and why it should be avoided at all costs. However as can be seen by the documentary DVD “Got Milk” most of the us population believe the “Milk is good for you” so Jovanka thanks for providing your video. Everyone needs to see it!

  5. I don’t drink milk but do have milk kefir on a daily basis made with raw milk, however it can be made with other milks, I feel having milk this way is beneficial and better for you than straight milk from a store bought bottle, especially if you know the farmer

  6. Do any other species on the planet drink the milk of another species? Nope, just humans. For being so evolved, clearly we are not that smart. Thank god I have a dairy allergy. But I do miss cheese…

  7. After reading The China Study over the summer I cleaned our fridge of all milk and dairy. There was a ton of it, mostly cheese. My 16 year-old daughter was not happy as she put cheese on just about everything. But she was overweight and sedentary, along with my wife and son, and I have been concerned about their health for awhile.

Since getting rid of the dairy I’ve seen the weight drop off them, and they feel better than they’ve felt in a long time. For milk, we initially tried soy until my chiropractor suggested almond milk. Now we’re happy about milk again. Not many alternatives here in the Deep South like you have in the Big City, but the almond milk tastes just fine. Good article, BTW.

  8. I loved the point Jovanka made about how cows get their calcium. I’ve never thought about it that way! Cows have strong bones to support their weight (which is significant, hello, it’s a COW!) and they do not drink their own milk, they eat plants. I’ve been off milk for a long time, always drinking almond milk, but I still feel very enlightened and proud of my choices.
